The Cornhusker State, as Nebraska is affectionately known gets its name from an
Indian word meaning "flat water" after the Platte River that flows through the
state. Geographically, most of the state consists of expansive prairie farmland, but in the
north-central part of the state, the Sand Hills are an area of rolling dunes covered by grass.
The northwestern corner consists of rugged sandstone bluffs.
It might surprise you to know that in addition to its deep rooted Western heritage, Nebraska also
features a host of top rated attractions including a world class zoo, aquarium and tropical rain
forest. If your kids are into old bones, then you've got to take them to see some of the largest
animals of the Pleistocene, from giant mammoths and mastodons to a recently unearthed herd of
ancient rhinos.
